Metal objects

Using excisting iron-ore deposits, from historical times onward iron objects were made all over Africa. These iron items were sometimes used on ancestral altars or sometimes used simply as a form of currancy. Later on bronze was used in the production of  high quality objects. Often the objects were small in size; used in rituals and used as a decoration for the body. Rarely silver was used; this mainly in the Arab parts of the continent. A more recently used metal is aluminium: using scrap-metal, mostly jewelry was made. A special reference should be made to the metal crosses, used in processions of the Ethiopian Orthodox Church or carried around by priests.
