Support beams & ladders

These massive ladders used to climb upon the roofs of houses or to scale the cliffs of Bandiagara (Mali) form impressive pieces of raw art when taken out of their context. This also goes for the support beams, used in constructions like the traditional Toguna's or in houses of village chiefs. These wooden pillars are typical of the Dogon of Mali although sometimes a rare ladder used by the Lobi of Burkina Faso can be found.
